750 Words

A few days ago a friend told me about a website called 750 Words. I had a look at the site and loved what I found so I thought I’d let you know about it. Essentially the site is based on the premise that writing out your thoughts in a stream-of-consciousness manner will help you clear your mind and get ideas flowing for the rest of the day. Like the founder of 750 Words, I also came across this technique while reading The Artist’s Way. In the book, the author describes how one should go about writing “Morning Pages”, which are three pages of free-writing done first thing in the morning and can be about anything that pops into your head as you write. The aim is to get your thoughts out of your head and on to the paper, and not editing or censoring yourself in any way. This technique has been credited with helping people think more creatively as well as easing daily anxieties and stresses.

The great thing about 750 Words is that it’s completely private, so it’s not a blog per se where people can view what you’ve written. The owner of the site has also created some interesting tools to analyse what you’ve written and gives you loads of fascinating stats about your mood, what your main focus is on and what words you use most often; which can give you some interesting insights into your subconscious. If you’re keen on improving your creative thinking then this website might be worth a look…
